7th Ed Changes

Here are the differences I noticed :
  • Skirmishers can no longer march. -- This includes characters
  • Monsters can now turn once in any direction during their charge, they don't necessarily have to turn before charging -- this allows them to charge around terrain, for example.
  • FLying creatures now cannot mix movement -- if you choose to fly, you have to endure the disadvantage ... there is no fly walk fly or walk, fly, walk thing now.
  • Clear description of bases and unit strength
  • Overrun -- Me like this rule -- If you overrun into a new enemy, you may choose to fight them in the same combat phase, provided your enemy has not fought yet and this is the first time you are overrunning this turn. -- Think charging your fast cavalry in and helping two combats -- tactically sweet.
  • All psychology is now 6 inches
  • Stupid creatures are now immune to psych
  • If you roll snake eyes in break test, you stay ( we've been playing like that for ages - so no change for us)
  • Fleeing is now thus - Turn unit in direction you are going to flee first , then if the width touches an enemy more than Unit Str 5, the unit dies, even if it just scrapes the side of one model, it also dies.
  • Obviously, in multiple combats, you always flee from the highest unit str (roll off if there is draw). Note that with the above rule in place, the skirmisher and fast Cavalry now becomes very very good.
  • Fast Cavalry now gains no rank bonus (My wild riders have been nerfed =S )
  • Battle Standard gives +1 combat res -- now allowing max +2 from standards in combats.
  • Shooting - You can shoot anything now, as long as you can see it.
  • Archers cannot split shooting, the whole unit must shoot at the same target, if some guys cannot see, too bad.
  • Special features terrain -- some terrain features now have special rules, much like Cities of Death build strategems, for example, if you "own" a holy site, the unit owning it gains immune to psych ( this is from memory -- can be wrong)
  • Magic has changed - The miscast table is much more lethal, but the spells are much better. Some spells actually turn mages into combat monsters - +3 A, +1 St (read chaos tzeentch and vampires).
  • Magic has changed part 2 -- Mages can now only use dice which belong to them.
  • Magic items - Enchanted Shield no longer is compatible with other magic armour.
  • "Look out sir" cannot be used if your character's base size is bigger than the unit's
Yup, overall, Archers are slightly more nerfed, magic becomes at best an iffy thing and movement has become even more powerful.

Most importantly, characters, especially mages have been forced to join units or face big big consequences (as they cannot march)

On the upside, now there is a reason why you should buy them horses.

7th Ed Changes

Hi guys,

How about we start a post on new house rules and also the changes that we've noticed about 7th Ed. The reason I propose this other than go fishing in forums for the complete changes is that if we write from our perspective, we can give our thoughts on how the game is actually played differently now...

I propose these House Rules ( that I can think of- feel free to add on please):

  1. If the Chaos Army is led my a Daemonic General, then all the Daemons in the army get their daemonic saves turned to normal ward saves
  2. Archers can get an additional rank only if they do not move. (This includes formation change - obviously if you're on a hill, you get 3 ranks if you don't move).
I'll post the changes from my point of view tomorrow.

Summary

Hiya Fellas,
Been a bit busier of late, so have not been posting.
Seeing the new orc and goblin rumours have made me wanna collect an all goblin force again (gulp!),
Was thinking of a special character to lead the force, Grom sounds cool.

Anyway, thanks to the recent Blood Bowl games, been rather distracted.
I'm now working on two swamps. I've got the base done and now I'm shaping it.
Hopefully soon I'll sand them up and paint them. With some luck, I should be able to finish them next week.

I'm still assembling my high elves, but the progress is excruciatingly slow. I've only assembled the command group of the spear elves (minus their heads, but small inconvenience... heh heh).

I'll put up pics of the new swamps soon! Which means we can transfer Evan's swamp to one of our satellite gaming stations!

Oh by the way, Kelvin, the trailer for Mark of Chaos is damn cool lah. Makes me wanna play warhammer all over...

Happy Gaming!

Urban Planning

Finally got the 8 cities on sat. Been thinking and doing a bit of urban planning. Need to decide and design how the buildings should be build. There is a lot of possibilities. Will keep to the suggestions suggested by you all. Meantime, any more suggestions just let me know...

Target to finish the second building base painting, then will start assembling the rest of the building. This is getting all so exciting. More buildings, COD will seems so urban warfare.... FOR THE EMPEROR!

Finally completed my empire archers... now onto the warrior priest, very inspired to paint the priest after watching the Warhammer Mark of Chaos and Warhammer extended trailers... Check it out here guys!...

Stunning Relevation

I have just had one of those OMG moments...

I just realised that after selling off some of my dwarves and bretts and getting cheated of some Tomb Kings models, I am woefully short in terms of playable armies.

I have :
(fully 2.5k and above and playable for fantasy)

Wood Elf Army
Dark Elf Army ( Played 10 lost 10 and therefore retired till new army book)
Slayer Army (obviously a shit and giggles army which is nullified by new rulebook)
Bloodthirster Army

Nonplayable Fantasy:
Dwarves ( decided to retire them due to personal inability to adapt to lack of movement)
Brettonian (sold some)
Tomb Kings ( 2k only and missing a bone giant)

40K:

Tyranid army ( 2k and counting....)
Unbuilt Chaos Khorne army
Half a Sisters of Battle

This means I can technically only play with 3 regular armies at the moment with lots of models just taking up shelf space.... OMG!!!!

I need to revv up selling efforts and put lots of models on sale and rebuild my tomb kings!!! Raaarrgghhh !!!

Out shot by High Elves - Lucky to scrape a victory

We played Wood Elves vs High Elves yesterday and I was lucky to scrape a victory.

How an Alter Lord armed with the Bow of Loren and arcane bodkins ( that's 5 shots at 2+ to hit, 4+ to wound and no armour saves), 22 Archers, 5 Glade Riders, and 5 Glade Riders Scouts managed to get a grand total of 2 Ellyrian Reavers, 3 Archers, and 3 Tiranoc Chariot Wounds in 3 Turns of shooting is beyond me though.

Basically what happened was, I was totally outshot by the high elves, though my Treeman was lucky to escape no less that 4 Single bolt shots from his bolt throwers with 1 wound.

It also meant that if not for a lucky break in the 2nd turn where his unit of 6 silver helms failed his charge on my wild riders by 1 inch, thus allowing me to charge back and subsequently break him, I would have been massacred thoroughly...

Of course, I guess not playing for so long also mean that I made plenty of mistakes.. a big example was forgetting I had a wildrider noble in the ranks of my wildriders!!! Not that I didn't trash the silver helms, but I could actually have saved the points on something else.

Sigh...

I was pretty shocked also that Jason brought a Magelord to the battle instead of the usual 2 mages... add to his general and he only had 2 characters compared to my 4 : 1 2nd Lev, one 1st Level, a Noble and my Alter lord.

Anyway, the battle proceeded thus, I got mauled in the first turn by the high elf archers, reducing my ten man archer unit to 6 in one turn of shooting. I thought to retaliate using my other unit of 12 elf archers, but they managed to make a grand total of 1 pathetic wound!!!

To top it off, Jason had made the mistake of moving his general ( a elf Hero) out of his bodyguard unit of White Lions, right into the woods and thinking to hunt down my waywatchers...Why mistake you ask ?? Well, waywatchers have killing blow at short range shooting... so.... 6 shots at 4+ to hit, I got 4 hits, and rolled ..... 2 ones, a two and a three!?!?!!? Freaking hell...

Amazingly, the next turn, the commander charged and killed only one watcher. What would you know, with 2 watchers and 4 attacks, only 1 managed to wound the pathetic T3 General!!!

Needless to say, the watchers died, but only after delaying the white lions for 2 turns.

Meanwhile, it was turn 3 and my Treeman had almost made its way to the Repeaters whilst my Wildriders were busy fighting off the Silver Helms.

Predictably, the Silver Helms broke and the chariot next to them panicked!! Bonus at last!!

Once again, my treeman did his strangling roots attack and only managed to kill a couple of guys.. It was indeed a bleak day for Wood Elven shooting, even without the damn arrow attraction spell of the High Elves...

Obviously, by the fourth Turn, I had mopped up the right flank and I've cunningly set up my left flank as a bait and trap to entice a huge unit of 8 silver helms to charge me.

Unfortunately, Jason didn't bite and decided to wait for his infantry to finally arrive (after my effective march blocking units left/died etc).

In reply, I pulled all my units on the left flank back into the woods with my Glade riders waiting to charge in th flank.

On hindsight, Jason told me there were just too many units to make my bait and trap effectively, cos he was afraid of commiting with so many of my forces on one side of the table ... I was arrayed thus:

Just as a guage, his spear elves are one turn away from charge range.. so had his silver helm charged, I would have held cos I had a magical banner that made me unbreakable for one turn. Then it would have been carnage to the woodys... unfortunately, he didn't charge, and I had to move my troops into hiding ...

I made a fatal error and thought that the my fifth turn would have been my last, thinking that I started the game and assuming it was the 6th turn when it was only my 5th!! Ahhh.. the woe... otherwise I probably could have charged one of the spears in the big fat behinds!!!

The woe the woe... Anyways, as it turned out, I was expecting a draw and actually managed to scrape a minor victory... so I lucked out, even though I had the most bo bo shooting since I started wood elves... =)
