Empire in Flames....

The Empire book is out!!!!

I've my hands on it for a week now.. and I must say... the flagellant army led by a steam tank cum all sorts of daft contraptions like Hell blaster and Rocket Batteries with Mechanical Horses look extremly likely at the moment.

Absolutely disgusting to say the least, but let's wait and see ... I can't wait to hunt me some Outriders (or should I say get hunted down by>??)

Unstoppable dwarves.

Hmm... I came across this online today... Is this possible?

I'd really want to play vs this list. Jason: Shall we have a match with this vs any other army??

I doubt if Dwarves can be unstoppable...

Fiddly Sticks in the Boxed Rules set

Just discovered on this page that :

Default Re: movement and measurements internationally
An interesting thing to note is that while the fiddly sticks GW supplies us with have inches marked on them, their inches are only exactly 2.5 centimeters long, as opposed to the 2.54cm they should be. It sounds ridiculously trivial, but can actually add up in practice...

Just another reason not to use the fiddly sticks, I guess.

Seems like the fiddly stick thing is NOT accurate... stick to the tape measure guys...heh heh

Swamps!!!

I've finished making two swamps!
Here are the pics. Pardon the quality.

Evan's swamp is now available for redeployment to another satellite gaming centre. SMS me if you want it, but do take care of it!

New Look for Christmass on Maelstrom Games

Hi guys,
Maelstrom games has done away with their army deals.. instead they have new offers that rewards buying with them..

MAELSTROM GAMES

In short, if you order above 50 pounds, you get additional 1% off on top of the 10% off they give currently, above 100 and it's 2%.. above 200 and it's 4%... on top of that, every time you buy, you get 1% back in your account.. so that means that next time you buy, you can choose to use that on top of all the discount you get from the value of your order..

The system is quite good and encourages people to keep buying from them.. but from my point of view, that's fine ... since they have quite ok service and they have FREE delivery..

Sooo... who wants to place an order?

Okay! Here goes!

Thanks for the brill time on Hari Raya Eve!
Just to let you guys know what's happening, I've undercoated the swamps and should finish them by the end of the month. So we'll have more terrain options. The plan is for me to go back and finish up the forgeworld blacksmiths forge.

I'm now totally dedicated to finish up my High Elves. So no distractions please... though a all night goblin army (as featured in dwarf) is kinda tempting...

I'm also working up on my sisters of battle. So city fight here i come...

I've been sculpting up some figures from scratch. Once I've finished, I'll post up some pics for you guys to comment!

JH

Empire of Sigmar

Just got my White Dwarf yesterday, and they have an empire preview inside... One note: DO NOT BUY the empire army deal!!!

The included special edition wizard sucks in my humble opinion... not only is it bad ass ugly, but it's also badly sculpted.... http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53497&page=2

The other models look nice though (if you've been to the site I posted previously)

Oh by the way.. the eldar writeups are quite nice as well, except for the fact that the battle report was obviously designed to make you buy those units that have been commented to be absolutely useless in the new army book...

Oh and can I not be the only one posting here please ???

It's beginning to seem like my personal warhammer blog...

What a lot of 1s

Following Junx's post, I'd like to continue the gripe.
In turn 1, My Runelord with an anvil of doom misfired on turn 1 (and i didn't use the ancient powers), though fortunately nothing happened... but still!!! it was irritating. And with a cannon shot landing in front of a unit of Bloodletters with the cowering Exalted Daemon behind, i rolled a 2 to bounce...

In turn two and on, it got worse:
First the cannon shot hit a flesh hound before hitting the vile Exalted Daemon. And guess what I rolled a 1 to wound the bloody khorne beast. Only to proceed to roll another 1 to wound the Exalted Daemon!

With his unit of Flesh hounds charging my Ironbreakers, only for his flesh hounds to lose by 5, since we didn't hurt each other... ranks, standards and outnumber. Still he rolled a double 1s to stay in combat!!

The shooting was quite bad too... From a total of 12 wounds on his flesh hounds and letters, he managed to save 9 wounds... on a 5+ ward... The blood god was indeed on the battlefield.

Then came the big fight! With my long beards and a unit of dwarf warriors and a battle standard, I duffed the heck outta the Bloodletters. Winning by a whopping 7 points, he rolled another double 1s. This was beginning to be to hard to bear. As even if he rolled higher his daemons would still lose some models due to instability... but... sigh.

With the blood thirster coming, I forgot to use my runelord to restrict his flying... but junx wouldn't allow me to double back to use the power, I was in the close combat phase. So out of 3 turns my 175 point investment only worked once. And in the next turn, his Greater Daemon flew in for the kill... It was too late.

I decided to call it a day and return to the dwarf holds. It was a bloody day for the Blood God, with his throne piled with dwarfen skulls.

sob. sob. sob.

Big Red Triumph

What a victory, we played Khorne Daemons vs Dwarves on Sat and it was quite interesting with the new rules....

First:

New rules Discovery

Frenzy rules have been changed and the troops with Frenzy lose them immediately Before rolling break test. This means that for example, if a witch elf unit meets and is outnumbered by a fear causing enemy and is later defeated in combat, it will automatically flee (unless they roll Insane Courage!) .

Report:

Not much to report actually, considering Jason conceded on the third turn. Bwahahahaa.. Anyway, I was nearly shot up in the first turn, he moved first and shot and got a hit on my Exalted Daemon with his cannon... however, I didn't even need to roll my Ward, cos he rolled a 1 to wound!!! Hee Hee..

Next came the shooting at my big unit of Bloodletters (15 of em). He got about 7 wounds and I saved all but 2 on a 5+ save!!! WAhahahahaha.... Khorne blesses he who believes....

Anyway, the rest of the game basically followed this trend. He charged me in turn 2 winning by like 6 and and I still roll a double 1 to stay in combat!!

Needless to say, with luck like this, I only had to hold on till my Thirster got into combat and started salsa-ing with his dwarves... Getting 5 deaths out of 7 attacks .... which promptly resulted in me winning through outnumber by fear, even tho a unit of letters had lost frenzy last turn.

Note -- at this point he had a unit of longbeards and clansmen(with Btle Std) in combat with two units of letters and my thirsters, all engaged on the front.

Obviously, after winning, I'd already killed off quite a lot of his troops and he conceded, knowing that I will overrun into the flank of his hammerers...

Life was good .... Karnigar Big Red Feasts in the glory of KHORNE!!!!

7th Ed Changes

Here are the differences I noticed :
  • Skirmishers can no longer march. -- This includes characters
  • Monsters can now turn once in any direction during their charge, they don't necessarily have to turn before charging -- this allows them to charge around terrain, for example.
  • FLying creatures now cannot mix movement -- if you choose to fly, you have to endure the disadvantage ... there is no fly walk fly or walk, fly, walk thing now.
  • Clear description of bases and unit strength
  • Overrun -- Me like this rule -- If you overrun into a new enemy, you may choose to fight them in the same combat phase, provided your enemy has not fought yet and this is the first time you are overrunning this turn. -- Think charging your fast cavalry in and helping two combats -- tactically sweet.
  • All psychology is now 6 inches
  • Stupid creatures are now immune to psych
  • If you roll snake eyes in break test, you stay ( we've been playing like that for ages - so no change for us)
  • Fleeing is now thus - Turn unit in direction you are going to flee first , then if the width touches an enemy more than Unit Str 5, the unit dies, even if it just scrapes the side of one model, it also dies.
  • Obviously, in multiple combats, you always flee from the highest unit str (roll off if there is draw). Note that with the above rule in place, the skirmisher and fast Cavalry now becomes very very good.
  • Fast Cavalry now gains no rank bonus (My wild riders have been nerfed =S )
  • Battle Standard gives +1 combat res -- now allowing max +2 from standards in combats.
  • Shooting - You can shoot anything now, as long as you can see it.
  • Archers cannot split shooting, the whole unit must shoot at the same target, if some guys cannot see, too bad.
  • Special features terrain -- some terrain features now have special rules, much like Cities of Death build strategems, for example, if you "own" a holy site, the unit owning it gains immune to psych ( this is from memory -- can be wrong)
  • Magic has changed - The miscast table is much more lethal, but the spells are much better. Some spells actually turn mages into combat monsters - +3 A, +1 St (read chaos tzeentch and vampires).
  • Magic has changed part 2 -- Mages can now only use dice which belong to them.
  • Magic items - Enchanted Shield no longer is compatible with other magic armour.
  • "Look out sir" cannot be used if your character's base size is bigger than the unit's
Yup, overall, Archers are slightly more nerfed, magic becomes at best an iffy thing and movement has become even more powerful.

Most importantly, characters, especially mages have been forced to join units or face big big consequences (as they cannot march)

On the upside, now there is a reason why you should buy them horses.

7th Ed Changes

Hi guys,

How about we start a post on new house rules and also the changes that we've noticed about 7th Ed. The reason I propose this other than go fishing in forums for the complete changes is that if we write from our perspective, we can give our thoughts on how the game is actually played differently now...

I propose these House Rules ( that I can think of- feel free to add on please):

  1. If the Chaos Army is led my a Daemonic General, then all the Daemons in the army get their daemonic saves turned to normal ward saves
  2. Archers can get an additional rank only if they do not move. (This includes formation change - obviously if you're on a hill, you get 3 ranks if you don't move).
I'll post the changes from my point of view tomorrow.

Summary

Hiya Fellas,
Been a bit busier of late, so have not been posting.
Seeing the new orc and goblin rumours have made me wanna collect an all goblin force again (gulp!),
Was thinking of a special character to lead the force, Grom sounds cool.

Anyway, thanks to the recent Blood Bowl games, been rather distracted.
I'm now working on two swamps. I've got the base done and now I'm shaping it.
Hopefully soon I'll sand them up and paint them. With some luck, I should be able to finish them next week.

I'm still assembling my high elves, but the progress is excruciatingly slow. I've only assembled the command group of the spear elves (minus their heads, but small inconvenience... heh heh).

I'll put up pics of the new swamps soon! Which means we can transfer Evan's swamp to one of our satellite gaming stations!

Oh by the way, Kelvin, the trailer for Mark of Chaos is damn cool lah. Makes me wanna play warhammer all over...

Happy Gaming!

Urban Planning

Finally got the 8 cities on sat. Been thinking and doing a bit of urban planning. Need to decide and design how the buildings should be build. There is a lot of possibilities. Will keep to the suggestions suggested by you all. Meantime, any more suggestions just let me know...

Target to finish the second building base painting, then will start assembling the rest of the building. This is getting all so exciting. More buildings, COD will seems so urban warfare.... FOR THE EMPEROR!

Finally completed my empire archers... now onto the warrior priest, very inspired to paint the priest after watching the Warhammer Mark of Chaos and Warhammer extended trailers... Check it out here guys!...

Stunning Relevation

I have just had one of those OMG moments...

I just realised that after selling off some of my dwarves and bretts and getting cheated of some Tomb Kings models, I am woefully short in terms of playable armies.

I have :
(fully 2.5k and above and playable for fantasy)

Wood Elf Army
Dark Elf Army ( Played 10 lost 10 and therefore retired till new army book)
Slayer Army (obviously a shit and giggles army which is nullified by new rulebook)
Bloodthirster Army

Nonplayable Fantasy:
Dwarves ( decided to retire them due to personal inability to adapt to lack of movement)
Brettonian (sold some)
Tomb Kings ( 2k only and missing a bone giant)

40K:

Tyranid army ( 2k and counting....)
Unbuilt Chaos Khorne army
Half a Sisters of Battle

This means I can technically only play with 3 regular armies at the moment with lots of models just taking up shelf space.... OMG!!!!

I need to revv up selling efforts and put lots of models on sale and rebuild my tomb kings!!! Raaarrgghhh !!!

Out shot by High Elves - Lucky to scrape a victory

We played Wood Elves vs High Elves yesterday and I was lucky to scrape a victory.

How an Alter Lord armed with the Bow of Loren and arcane bodkins ( that's 5 shots at 2+ to hit, 4+ to wound and no armour saves), 22 Archers, 5 Glade Riders, and 5 Glade Riders Scouts managed to get a grand total of 2 Ellyrian Reavers, 3 Archers, and 3 Tiranoc Chariot Wounds in 3 Turns of shooting is beyond me though.

Basically what happened was, I was totally outshot by the high elves, though my Treeman was lucky to escape no less that 4 Single bolt shots from his bolt throwers with 1 wound.

It also meant that if not for a lucky break in the 2nd turn where his unit of 6 silver helms failed his charge on my wild riders by 1 inch, thus allowing me to charge back and subsequently break him, I would have been massacred thoroughly...

Of course, I guess not playing for so long also mean that I made plenty of mistakes.. a big example was forgetting I had a wildrider noble in the ranks of my wildriders!!! Not that I didn't trash the silver helms, but I could actually have saved the points on something else.

Sigh...

I was pretty shocked also that Jason brought a Magelord to the battle instead of the usual 2 mages... add to his general and he only had 2 characters compared to my 4 : 1 2nd Lev, one 1st Level, a Noble and my Alter lord.

Anyway, the battle proceeded thus, I got mauled in the first turn by the high elf archers, reducing my ten man archer unit to 6 in one turn of shooting. I thought to retaliate using my other unit of 12 elf archers, but they managed to make a grand total of 1 pathetic wound!!!

To top it off, Jason had made the mistake of moving his general ( a elf Hero) out of his bodyguard unit of White Lions, right into the woods and thinking to hunt down my waywatchers...Why mistake you ask ?? Well, waywatchers have killing blow at short range shooting... so.... 6 shots at 4+ to hit, I got 4 hits, and rolled ..... 2 ones, a two and a three!?!?!!? Freaking hell...

Amazingly, the next turn, the commander charged and killed only one watcher. What would you know, with 2 watchers and 4 attacks, only 1 managed to wound the pathetic T3 General!!!

Needless to say, the watchers died, but only after delaying the white lions for 2 turns.

Meanwhile, it was turn 3 and my Treeman had almost made its way to the Repeaters whilst my Wildriders were busy fighting off the Silver Helms.

Predictably, the Silver Helms broke and the chariot next to them panicked!! Bonus at last!!

Once again, my treeman did his strangling roots attack and only managed to kill a couple of guys.. It was indeed a bleak day for Wood Elven shooting, even without the damn arrow attraction spell of the High Elves...

Obviously, by the fourth Turn, I had mopped up the right flank and I've cunningly set up my left flank as a bait and trap to entice a huge unit of 8 silver helms to charge me.

Unfortunately, Jason didn't bite and decided to wait for his infantry to finally arrive (after my effective march blocking units left/died etc).

In reply, I pulled all my units on the left flank back into the woods with my Glade riders waiting to charge in th flank.

On hindsight, Jason told me there were just too many units to make my bait and trap effectively, cos he was afraid of commiting with so many of my forces on one side of the table ... I was arrayed thus:

Just as a guage, his spear elves are one turn away from charge range.. so had his silver helm charged, I would have held cos I had a magical banner that made me unbreakable for one turn. Then it would have been carnage to the woodys... unfortunately, he didn't charge, and I had to move my troops into hiding ...

I made a fatal error and thought that the my fifth turn would have been my last, thinking that I started the game and assuming it was the 6th turn when it was only my 5th!! Ahhh.. the woe... otherwise I probably could have charged one of the spears in the big fat behinds!!!

The woe the woe... Anyways, as it turned out, I was expecting a draw and actually managed to scrape a minor victory... so I lucked out, even though I had the most bo bo shooting since I started wood elves... =)

Chaos Vs Vampire Counts.

Irina Tatyana climbed on top of the monstrous daemonic warmachine; with all her inhuman might, she stab a fist into the hulking chunk of metal...
only to break her nails.

Did i mention how much I hate things like the Hellcannon. With a template that causes Str 10 hits and the daemonic presence to reroll the scatter die, it has been rather irritating. It killed 10 grave guard from 2 turns of shooting. Not to mention that it scattered my Dwarfen battle line in the previous game. Although points wise it might not seem like a good trade, but I felt it helped dylan get a draw with my Dwarfs... Fortunately this game in turn 3, it MISFIRED and ate all the damned Chaos Dwarfs... So it started rampaging around and as I had broken through Dylan's battle line with my Vampire Count and her skeletal cohort, that made things interesting...

We actually realised we had fully painted armies! So we took a pic and only one pic! This is after Dylan's first turn move, and my deployment. (The skeleton unit on the right of the cottage bust through Dylan's centre. Whilst over on the left of the well, his cavalry and my black knights face off...)

Anyway, after my skeletons and vampire busted through the chaos center, the hellcannon actually protected the rear of the chaos army (rampaging around), as such I could not turn the unit around to attack the rear, rather I had to defend against the infernal Hell machine.

And its an awfully 'tough as nails' thing!

With 4 attacks, god knows how many wounds, a 3+ save, Strength 6 and toughness 7. It was impossible to beat the damn thing in combat too!!!! Lesson 1: I had skeletons with spears, but with strength 3 it was impossible to wound it even! Lesson 2: if i opted to parry with my skeletons, my bones would get a 4+ save, which was nicely nullified by its strength 6! So that made my skeletons kinda useless Lesson3: even with a vampire count, although a Lahmian, poor Irina had to wound on 6s... ooh. Then he had his armour save (modified to 5+). Gosh! Lesson 4: It was unbreakable too! So although the thing was a daemon, there was no way I could extricate myself from the battle, in fact it was slowly chomping through my pile o bones.

The moral of the story is: avoid the damn thing from far or near... unless you have a lascannon or a power fist.

Finally, it was another close grinding battle as we whittled each other down. The vampires holding on to a Minor Victory!!!

Stuff for sale!

Up for sale on Ebay is my latest work, a wood elf spellsinger.

New Year, New Armies

Hey people,

Rumours abound on the Orcs' new army book and I tell you... it's all looking bad for the enemies of the Greenies at the moment... check out the new orc warboss... rumoured to be the Gorbad Ironclaw model... it's vicious!!

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40091

Also, Orcs get +1 S with a choppa now.. even with two hand weapons!!! Black Orcs now can choose weapons every round of combat too...

On top of that, the darned things have a free move every game, the 6th spell of little Waaagh! gives you D6 S10 hits if you fail an I test ( Talk about having a grudge vs Dwarves) ...

On the good side, at least the gobbos cost one point more and have no options to have shields.
The fanatics also can only be released as a charge reaction, which bodes well for opponents ... AND .. (I see this as the most impt change) you can only have as many black orc bosses as you do Black Orc units... hopefully that Black Orc general rule doesn't still apply ...

Also.. boar boyz now cost 22 points each!! YAY !! No more huge units of 12 - 15 Boar boyz a la Evan style!!

Now if only they made Dark elves this viable... sighz...

Terrain: Well

Heya! I've actually finished up the Well. Here are some of the pics...
I didn't want the Well to look all grey, so I decided to paint the bricks and the roof tiles in the much underused, much maligned Terracotta. With additional highlights of Bleached Bone added to it.
With the rest of floor tiles and trough in the traditional grey theme.

I added some cute details to the well like the rope for the bucket, made of 2 thin gauge wires twisted together and a quick lick of Vomit Brown. It makes the well more visually appealing, and humourous.

I also decided to add some resin to resemble water. The roof and struts can be removed to show the well with the water in it. I'm still comtemplating whether I should glue the roof down permanantly, but I thought it'd be better to be flexible, but the paint off the struts gets scratched off easily as you remove or put in the roof. Any comments?

Well? Do you think well of my well? Hahaha

Last but not least!!!!

Gorthmaw Childtaker's Beast Herd rampages through the Empire village of Bogenshafen!

Last to the Trio of terrain is the really much complicated Blacksmith's Forge. But I want to make a couple of swamps (having fun with the resin) before I embark on that project. But our village is slowly coming to life!

Hellblaster FIRE!

Haha... Junx miss warhammer? I do too... Did thought of playing on national day too... I not sure I can arrange or not... or is Jason available? Dont mind a quick one off game also.... In the urge for warhammer too... Well the other thurs evening, did had a 1k plus game with my friend Shaun, first time tried my Hellblaster... OOooo awesome! Blasted a whole squad of chaos hounds... Victory was with Sigmar! Cant wait to blast more chaos, elves, orks, dwarfs with it... hehe

Today been toying with the idea of IG for my demonhunters... just feelin like getting some more IG men to aid my grey knights... Infantry men forwards... charge!... Grey Knights Purge the evil source!... For the EMPEROR!

My Khorne Army

Yes, my dearies.. I'm just gonna show a few picts of my finishing Khorne army ... Finally I am nearing completion of my army, so I'll show my completed stuff first... I think after the 3rd Juggernaut, I shd be able to get things going quite fast.. in the mean time .. I only can show one jugger.. (the second's being completed).. Here they are :

http://junxliaw.myphotoalbum.com/albums.php

So many models, so little time

For the Emperor! Seem like its Cities of Death mood everyone is it? Been a long time since I command my Grey Knights to war. Trying to recall and refresh the Grey Knight tactics. Always dont have much faith when fighting swarm army using my grey knight... see so many enemies I loose faith already... Must pray to the Emperor and ask for more faith!

I still feel playing imperial guard in city fight would be much more fun and challenge (as if Grey Knight not challenging enough for me..haha) The 4+ cover save... make it so exciting to me... Now... trying to see if I can form a radical demonhunter army with IG... Just like the 40k novels, Inquisitor always ask help from the Imperial side, seldom space marines come along. And I want demonhost... Pass by serene center yesterday, wanted to get one more demonhost, sharks.. they dont even have demonhost.. sigh.

And also sisters... should have my sister out to shout "For the Emperor" too... they been having their beauty sleep too long.. haha

Ya... 6 archers done... 10 more to go.. and I am done with my men of the empire. Then will start my orges and heros... Oh ya, need to add few more knights to prepare for the 5 men to count as a rank for the new rules... Then I am finally done with empire and can wait for the new men to come...

Next, more urban planning needed, gonna get back to my buildings at the same time, more building to come later on...

Wa... lately got so so many many things to paint and be busy with.. suddenly find too many models too little time... haha

Terrain: Cottage

With some divine help, I've actually finished the cottage.

I've posted a pic to show you how it's like now.
I'm starting on the well now, and have prepared it for spraying.
Once that's done, I'll be able to paint the well.
Took 5 shots but only one was decent enough for your eyes...

Anyway, had a game against Dylan's Chaos, and I'll write about that in another post. For now it's back to painting...

Waaghh?!!

Seeing how you guys are having so much fun, it makes me tempted to field my orks.

But seeing your cool battle reports, it only makes one concern I had come blaring out. That is the issue of armour saves, the fact that line of sights are restricted coupled with cover saves for low cost high number armies like orks, tyranids and eldar, it seems then that whoever can pile more warm bodies into the fight should be able to well... but I've not even read the rules, much less play... so my comments are my own selfish biased thoughts...

Nonetheless, I've been personally quite excited by fantasy, with the new edition coming, and have started painting the cottage. I hope to post the picture soon.

Cheers... BFG anyone?
hehehe

Lonely Junx

Dear diary,

Where is everyone?!??!?!!? It seems that I am the only one active on this blog.. which is sad.. because without Light .. there can be No Darkness...

Anyways, I am thinking of rejuvenating my Sisters of Battle army again, seeing as how I have all the infantry models of the army built and only need the Immolators and Penitent engines and Exorcist done up to have an army up ... Sigh.. more stuff to make ...

It seems that I have more and more stuff to make and no time to make them.. Seems like I'll never make it to painting my models ..hahahaha

Anyways, I am almost finishing my Jugger conversions and will be moving on to finishing up my Khorne Fantasy Daemon army in terms of basing and movement trays etc.. before I move on to Sisters .. bwahaha ...

I need to dedicate some down time to making models man .. which means I'm definitely out of the playing circuit for a while..

In the meantime, we have decided we shall be requisitioning an Imperial City to play Cities of Death with.. Hurrah !! Dylan had better read his Cities of Death before we start the next game... or he might just lose ..AGAIN!! .... bwahahahha...

The Red Tide

Next up, Junx vs Kelvin... or Tyranids vs the Holy Inquisition.

We kept the same terrain ... except this time, the mission was Firesweep, meaning you had to plant flags on as many buildings as possible...

We decided to play Gamma level and chose two strategems each ... me choosing Infiltrate and Sewer Rats... choosing to keep one unit of Hormies and my Carnifex in reserve..

Kelvin chose Booby traps (again) and ammo dump.. having seen how the ammo dump really helped in Dylan's shooting first hand...

On hind sight ... Booby traps was prob not the best choice vs Tyranids, cos there are just too many of them... I would have only detonated the traps when the big guys like the hive tyrant or the Carnifex got near .... but then ... it would have been purely opportunistic.... perhaps other strategems like razor wire would be better....

In any case, due to the cover of buildings and the resultant lack of line of sight... my Nids really excelled and everything went according to the typical Nid Invasion. The Gaunts were thrown into battle with the hammer of his army whilst the slower elements and big guns like the stealers, the Fex and the Tyrant were right behind, wreaking havoc where ever they went.

I liked that my Fex came out like a sewer rat only in the second turn and for once, was in combat with the enemy ... Though it died in its first turn out because of the combined charge of the Grek Knights and their accursed STr 6 close combat weapons, I felt that Cities of Death will eventually allow me to actually have melee based Fex, quite unlike the usual 40k games where any melee made Monstrous Creature without Wings upgrade will just be cannon/bolter/las cannon fodder...

Another key aspect that's changed is that the strategems selection really affects your play a lot ..in a way, it makes it all more tactical ... albeit in a different way from Fantasy... I think it presents a different game now.. which, if we had more... would admittedly be more exciting ... the idea of people fighting close quarters in such futuristic settings is indeed very cool..

Overall, I'm a little happy with the aspects of the City fight games, though I'm still a little unconvinced that it is a game that drains the brains the way Fantasy does, it is a lot more fluffy and since I have 40 k armies, I wouldn't mind investing in more buildings to make the game more fun and a little more viable than otherwise... :)

Angels of Darkness

Commander Ithelien looked at his monitor once more as his brother Marines fought the forces of the infernal Inquisition as they defended the building that contained evidence of the Dark Angel's dark secret. Traces of a Fallen having been on this planet were in that building...

The self same building that the grey knights seemed intent on on holding at all costs... already the assassins from the Death Cult have done the impossible: killing an entire squad of the Emperor's finest in Tactical Dreadnought armour.

"Commander! The Shadow in the Warp has just gotten stronger! If we do not leave now, we will be risking discovery of our detour here!" shouted old Avernus, the battle barge's Astral Seer..

Flattening the bridge's railing, Commander Ithelien knew he had no choice.

"Order our forces to teleport back to the barge immediately! We'll leave this place to the Xenos, and let the bugs cleanse the planet of the Fallen before we come back to wreak the Emperor's Vengeance on these Xenos!"

So basically, what happened was this was a game of Grey knights vs Dark Angels Deathwing using Cities of Death. We only had two buildings, so we proxied a missile bunker and a Fuel Dump as the other two city ruins.

Given that it was the first game the three of us (Kelvin as GK and Dylan as DA and me as Arbitrator) are playing for CoD, we decided on playing Alpha.

Dylan chose the ammunition dump strategem and Kel chose the booby trap strategem.

We rolled and got the High Ground mission, where you are supposed to occupy the central building..

The Game started great for Dylan, with the GK Dreadnought deployed out of position and going after a wild goose chase of a squad of termies.. Dylan opened fire and managed to destroy a Rhino carrying some storm troopers, causing it to explode with 3 consecutive sixes with the first cyclone missile shot !!!

Alas, from there on, things just went downhill for him as, inevitably, the sheer number of storm bolter shots, coupled with not having anything that could take down the Land Raider, meant that the termies died little by little.

I thought Dylan had a chance till the 5th turn, with the entire room not thinking that the Death Cult would do anymore than scratch the termies, both went in scored 4 hits and 4 kills EACH.. and wiped out an entire squad of poor termies (which included 2 assault cannons).

Despite the high death Toll, Kelvin only managed a draw with the Death Wing.. though had the game gone on for 2 more turns, I suspect the Holy Inquisition would have wiped out the entire Battle deployment of Death Wing..

Well..Dylan blames it on the Jim Beam he drank, but I think the games hows that CoD helps in letting the low Armour guys survive.

Kelvin will post up some pict soon ... the buildings are really nicely painted..heh heh

For The Emperor!!

Inquisitor Karldeck griped hard on his bolt pistol, closed his eyes and chanted... "May the Emperor be with us!" When he opened his eyes, the sky was darkened by his enemies. "FOR THE EMPEROR!!"

Sound of bolters, stormbolters, hellguns firing and blazing through the air, filled the silent which was only a moment again....

Goodbye Goblins!

In another moment of madness, I've decided not to collect goblins anymore...
I've decided to collect high elves for the different tactics involved and different models to paint (not another horde army for me!).

Saying that I've partially assembled my Lothern Seaguard with leftovers from my archers sprue and my box of dark elf warriors. I can only finish assembling them once I get my HE battalion. So pardon the missing parts.

Anyway, I've started painting my archers, and hope to get them done soon...

Dylan, I'm still fixing your dragon up, so sorry.

Sorry High Elves

In a moment of madness, I've decided to spurn my high elves... again.
With my secret love for goblins, I've decided to pick them up again and with one last concerted effort, try to finish them.

Did you know, that my first ever army was goblins? I never finished collecting them and that was like, miraculously, at least 15 years ago.

So now thanks to the fact that I've got 120 common goblins, 20 wolf riders, 3 chariots, and a wholesome lot of other stuff (not to mention being able to tap on Evan's stuff... hehehe), it's time the goblins got to war.

I've noticed a sadly dangerous trend as i continue to delve into lower and lower leadership armies... Still, i think it'll be good shit and giggles.
Oh, I can't wait to kill my first Chaos knight from a stab of a jabba (goblin for spears). ohohohoho.

Look outz boyz! The greenies are comin'!

Way to Go!

Well done! The buildings do look spiffy!
Hope you guys enjoy yourselves smashing through the cities of death!

I'm getting quite hyped up over 7th Ed, so hope to maybe have some games of 6th ed in as a form of farewell...

If the skirmishing rumours are true, I can kinda forget about my beastmen...
hahaha
sigh.

Fantastic Buildings

Oh.. My... Gosh!!!

Those buildings are fantastic!! They look like they came out of a
white dwarf battle report!! I'm impressed with the quality of the
buildings and of course, obviously Kelvin did a fine job assembling
them...

Just one question, can you assemble the buildings in many many ways,
or is it just that way?

Now geared up to play Cities!! Die, Loyalist Scum !! (okay okay ..
technically tyranids can't talk ... but what the hey..)

The Smell of Gunpowder...

The smell of gunpowder fills the air, seems like we are back in the warzone in the land of fantasy and the future of 40k...

Glad that we are trying to have regular games lately, least it pushing my motivation to paint fast as well. Well, guess I still need more practice with my brave men of the empire, and learn more from you guys. With the rumours of the new empire coming nearer and nearer to be true, I am really rushing to complete my last 15 archers, 5 swordmen and a couple of characters. By then, I will start recruitment for the new brave men of the empire! Hahaha... Looking forward to get my bretonnia started after this as well... same time also very tempting to jump along and painted some orges for my Dogs of War!

Click, click locked... stormbolters loaded, ready to fire, ready to rain bolts! The cities of death is the next cool thing I working on. Painting the building is indeed addictive. Finally completed my first building, working on the base and starting on the next one soon. Cant wait to try the new cities of death.

Well, though the rules for 40K is somehow weak, but overall I still do really enjoy it. Chucking dices and firing those bolters and hellgun sure make my day, whether I win or lose, what counts for is I can kick some demon butts and witches butts and purge some evil... haha. Especially if you digested a 40k novel, you sure feel like diving into the 40k world and fire more bolters.... Whatever how weak or poor 40k is, still I hope you guys would consider once a while jumping into the future for some trigger happy and shooting and assualt. Just looking forward to get back to 40k cities of death.... FOR THE EMPEROR!

Estellan's High Elves

Whew! It's been a while since i've come here, but I do hope to come here more often. And I hope everyone else will too.

Thanks to Dylan for leaving his merry band of high elves at my place, I can now play more games with the High Elves! Kinda seeking new adversaries, because I've had two games so far with my trial list and they were both against the Hordes of Chaos.

Anyway, with a win and a draw, I've got a pretty good feel for the current list I'm fielding. Nonetheless, I've made some changes and will be introducing new character setups, and the much maligned Lothern Seaguard.

Of course, any advice for playing with the High Elves is always welcome and any challenges to battle would be even more welcome... hahaha

I do hope to post some 'work in progress' pictures as I go along to keep everyone inspired, as I turn my painting attention to my Elves. (Sorry Beastmen!!!)

On the terrain front, as we've just portioned out the 40k terrain (good luck with the Cities of Death! remember to post your action here!), I noted how bare my terrain rack is, so I'll be working on the Forgeworld Cottage and hopefully will get it done soon. Seeing how I still owe Dylan a dragon... looks like I better stop typing and start painting... hahaha

Cheers!

The Horus Heresy

Just finished reading the second book of the Horus Heresy Series. It's called False Gods and I must say... the standard of the series is much better than ANY Black Library book I've read so far...

It's stimulating in imagery, and creates a sense tragedy about Horus and his Legion that feels real.. especially as most of the narrative is seen from one the Sons of Horus' point of view : that of Capt Loken...

Capt Loken is a straight up, typical Loyalist Marine of that time. Strong, intelligent and a warrior with honour through and through. You can sense both his sense of helplessness and his internal warring over finding that the Astartes has a traitor in its midst, and of course, that the Warmaster's character changes...

I'm not gonna spoil it all for you guys, but let's just say the book is a worthy read... cos it's made me want to play 40 K!!!! Unfortunately, reading it is making me think twice abt collecting the Worldeater marines, cos they are bloodthirsty warriors without honour... I'm really tempted to play a staunch space marine army now...

Sigh.. too bad 40k is too simplistic.. I really hope playing Cities of Death is enjoyable...
