City Planning

Ok guys, Andy came over yesterday and we had a small discussion about our upcoming "city" for our terrain.

We basically proposed that Jason, Andy and I will each take 2 sprues and make a small building, hopefully in time for the next game, to gain experience on how the sprues work.

In the mean time, we will start discussions over the "type" of buildings we would like our city to have. This will help in theming our games and the fights we have. For Example, if we have a Manufactorum or a Comms tower, then we can have more meaningful Capture games. An idea Kelvin suggested from previously when he was making for us, was to make a bridge between 2  three-storey buildings, then can contest for the bridge, and jump here jump there - Also a very cool idea.

Anyway, I will start the ball rolling by suggesting the following ( we don't necessarily have to build them ALL now) but listing what we want gives us something to work towards.)

  1. Manufactorum ( Factory to capture ) (1-2 storeys)
  2. Comms Tower ( At least 4 storeys)
  3. 2 Three-Storey buildings linked with a "Hover bridge" (we can tie string to the bridge to make it look like it's hovering).
  4. Landing Pad ( we can probably use Planet Strike Terrain to build).
  5. Supply Depot like area ( maybe make one-storey silos?)
  6. Power Station
  7. Shrine to the Emperor ( I have an idea for this --> I have spare terminator, can mount him on styrofoam and paint him grey --> Like a Space Marine Statue!!)

Let me know what you think.

oh by the way, Andy suggested we should have mdf boards as the base for the buildings... I have no visual image of what he was saying, but I think it makes sense to have bases for the buildings.

Only Comment: We need to consider Storage... having bases may cause problems with storing the buildings.

Well MDF boards are good for making the terrain more sturdy. Used them lots in GW store days. Which i use now for the newer terrain i make.
The boards are good, for it helps to delineate the building area. We can also do things like put in sidewalks and stuff.

Also, having bridges is cool and i think should be a must.
As for the buildings, are we building a ruined city or intact city or a mixed city?
I think there are rules differences, so we should get it clear...

I like the shrine idea ;) But must have a heavy base for it or it will topple over

Bridges would be cool!

As for type of buildings, yep, intact buildings or ruins have different rules. The thing is, I think there's a difference in Cities of Death rules and the new 5th ed rules for intact buildings. In Cityfight, intact buildings are impassable (Except maybe Jump infantry can land on roof). In 5th ed, infantry can enter buildings, even use the weapons in the buildings (eg. building is a fortress entrance).

We'll need to decide on which ruleset we'll be mainly playing. Intact buildings can be a problem also coz what if your unit is on second floor, enemy unit enters same building on first floor. Is it an assault? etc...

If you want to start building now, make a ruin first. :)

We also need to make a list and then state how many of each type of building we wanna make.

Also, I've uploaded a pdf doc onto Empyrean. A dude wrote it to advise people how to build cityfight terrain. I think it might come in useful.
